Zuckerberg turns Meta's AI agent into a toll booth

The move

At Meta Connect's Sept. 23-24 sessions, Zuckerberg said Muse, Meta's AI agent, will stay free for a large number of tokens, then earn Meta a small fee on transactions it completes. Meta added PayPal support and shopping integrations with Walmart, Best Buy, Gap, Sephora, Wayfair and American Eagle, plus travel booking through Expedia and grocery orders via Instacart.

Why it matters

Meta is betting that owning the AI agent people shop through is worth more than ad revenue alone. The fee comes from merchants, not users, so wider Muse adoption compounds directly into Meta's revenue.

The bear case

The model depends on people trusting an AI agent to spend money on their behalf, and Meta hasn't said what the fee will be or when it starts.

What to watch

How many retailers and users actually adopt Muse checkout once it leaves the keynote stage.

Trump and Xi meet, but Nvidia's China question stays open

The move

Trump hosted Xi Jinping at the White House on Sept. 24. AI safety cooperation came up in the talks, but chip export controls remained a sticking point and neither side signaled it would slow the AI race.

Why it matters

Nvidia's own guidance already assumes zero data-center chip sales to China, so any real opening would be pure upside. The summit didn't deliver one.

The bear case

Even where Washington has approved chip export licenses for Chinese firms, Beijing has reportedly discouraged its own companies from taking delivery, so a policy win in Washington may not translate into actual sales.

What to watch

Any follow-up announcement on chip licensing after this week's talks.

Arnault family rebuilds LVMH's holding company to lock in control

The move

The Arnault family plans to fold its LVMH stake into Christian Dior SE, then rename that entity Agache SCA, replacing Christian Dior as the family's single listed holding vehicle over LVMH.

Why it matters

A simpler structure makes it easier to keep LVMH under family control across generations, at a time when Arnault has not named a single successor among his five children.

The bear case

Restructuring family control doesn't fix LVMH's underlying problem: luxury demand has been soft enough this year that Arnault fell out of the world's top 10 richest.

What to watch

Whether the restructuring comes with any signal on succession.

Berkshire builds a nearly 10% stake in homebuilder Lennar

The move

Berkshire Hathaway bought 2.67 million Lennar Class A shares and 75,021 Class B shares between Sept. 17 and Sept. 21, worth about $212.4 million, taking its total position to nearly 10% of Lennar and about $1.8 billion. The buying started a day after Lennar missed third-quarter earnings estimates.

Why it matters

It's Berkshire's second housing bet under CEO Greg Abel, after it agreed to buy homebuilder Taylor Morrison for about $6.8 billion in a deal that closed in July.

The bear case

Lennar's stock fell on the earnings miss that preceded Berkshire's buying, and homebuilders are still working through weak demand and high mortgage rates.

What to watch

Whether Berkshire keeps adding to the Lennar stake, and Lennar's next earnings report.

Adani pledges over ₹1 lakh crore for West Bengal by 2035

The move

Gautam Adani said his group will invest more than ₹1 lakh crore in West Bengal by 2035, covering ports, logistics, renewable energy, power, roads, green cement and hyperscale data centers. He also laid the foundation for a 2,000-bed hospital in Kolkata, part of a separate ₹4,000 crore healthcare investment.

Why it matters

The announcement came a day after the Hurun India Rich List put Adani back ahead of Mukesh Ambani as India's richest person.

The bear case

Pledges over a decade-long horizon are easy to announce; how much becomes signed contracts depends on approvals and market conditions that can shift many times before 2035.

What to watch

How much of the pledge turns into signed contracts and groundbreakings over the next year.

Paramount's Warner Bros. Discovery deal risks a daily penalty

The move

Paramount Skydance's $31-per-share cash deal to buy Warner Bros. Discovery must close by Sept. 30 or Paramount owes WBD shareholders a ticking fee that accrues daily on top of that price. A group called Block the Merger is still fighting the deal in court, with amicus briefs due Sept. 25.

Why it matters

Every day past Sept. 30 raises the price Ellison-backed Paramount pays for WBD, on top of the legal costs of fighting off the merger challenge.

The bear case

The fee is small day to day, and Paramount has already shown it's willing to pay to keep the deal moving rather than let it collapse.

What to watch

Whether the deal closes by Sept. 30, and the outcome of the Sept. 25 amicus filings.

Investors keep betting on Tesla's robotaxi story, not car sales

The move

Tesla shares rallied roughly 6.75% over the past week. Robotaxi service now runs in seven U.S. metros, and active FSD subscriptions have reached 1.48 million, up 56% year over year. Tesla expects 2026 capital spending above $25 billion, rising further as it builds out Robotaxi, Optimus, chips and AI compute.

Why it matters

Even after Goldman Sachs cut its delivery estimates for the rest of the year, investors are pricing Tesla on autonomy and robots, not on how many cars it sells.

The bear case

Federal regulators are still investigating whether Tesla's steering-wheel-free Cybercabs comply with safety rules, and the robotaxi fleet remains small and geofenced to a handful of cities.

What to watch

The Tesla Roadster unveiling on Oct. 10.

Murdochs weigh reuniting Fox Corp and News Corp

The move

Court documents and testimony unsealed this month in a Fox shareholder lawsuit show Rupert and Lachlan Murdoch are weighing recombining Fox Corp and News Corp, 13 years after splitting the TV and publishing businesses apart.

Why it matters

A reunited company would tighten the family's grip over both operations at once, echoing an option Rupert Murdoch considered and shelved in 2022 after investor pushback.

The bear case

That same investor pushback from 2022 hasn't gone away, and a Delaware judge has separately ordered Fox to hand over hundreds of documents in the underlying shareholder case.

What to watch

Whether the family moves from considering the re-merger to actually proposing one.

Reliance plans a second rupee bond sale this month

The move

Reliance Industries is planning to raise up to ₹100 billion (about $1 billion) through AAA-rated, 10-year local-currency bonds, its second such offering in September after an earlier ₹125 billion sale, which was Reliance's first rupee bond deal since 2023.

Why it matters

Two bond sales in one month show Reliance leaning on debt markets to fund its energy, telecom, retail and AI data-center buildout rather than relying only on operating cash flow.

The bear case

Stacking two large bond deals in a single month adds to Reliance's debt load, at a time when the Hurun list shows Ambani's wealth down 10% year over year.

What to watch

The final pricing and investor demand for the new bond sale.
